Really, you think the iPad evokes images of feminine hygiene?

Seriously?

I’m a bit dumbfounded that even people who love Apple have gone off the marketing/branding deep end by overthinking the name.

I think the name is logical and yes, predictable… but it’s effective. It’s flat, you can touch it, “draw” or “write” on it… it’s a pad. Why wouldn’t Apple stick with something short and sweet and not so far from the “i” tree? iPod, iPad. Whatever.

They even used to make the “MessagePad.” It’s not that big of a deal.

Yet, search for “iPad name” and up comes this goofy MadTV spoof:

That was done in 2007, well before the iPad became a reality. Search on the iPad and you also get dozens of posts blasting or ridiculing Apple for the name.

Ignore the name nonsense and focus on the features – for which you’ll find quite a bit of commentary and healthy critique on by the way. Personally, my first take was… “Oh, a big iPodTouch.”

Not my preference, yet. Not until I get the itch for more touchscreen functionality and an eBook reader, etc… At some point I’ll jump on that bandwagon but a MacBook Pro laptop suits me better for the work I need to do. An iPad would suit a different purpose for me.

So anyway, what’s the problem with the iPad name? It’s better than the iSlate or iTablet.

Now those would have been awful names.
