My kind of mayor
I had never heard of Washington, D.C. mayor Adrian M. Fenty until I saw this post on the D.C. Wire from The Washington Post.
Judging by the comments to that post, Fenty doesn’t have many fans for how he is managing the response to the big snowstorm in D.C. this month. I’ll leave it up to the D.C. crowd to be the experts on that. Again, looking at the comments it appears Fenty has some issues, not just with the snow.
In any case, count me in as a Fenty fan, at least of what he did when he called BS on WRC-TV news anchor Eun Yang last Thursday, when she asked him about the snow removal process in the city, and about the process for making sure trash was getting picked up.
Some see arrogance, half-truths and the lies of a jerk… but from my perch in Minnesota, where we don’t haul snow off our streets – we understand the snow stays on the ground until it melts – I see pure TV news gold and a refreshing comeback to a TV news anchor who had it coming.
It’s priceless.
But as a former TV news executive producer – if Fenty truly was exaggerating the success of the response to the snow and getting streets plowed – then I would have been in Yang’s ear saying “Don’t let him get away with that… Challenge him on those claims.”Yang should have stuck to her guns if she thought he was being a jerk. I wish I could tune in for his next appearance on their show.
More than likely, both she and her co-anchor must have been afraid of losing the exclusive mayor-on-the set “Connecting with the Mayor” interview series.
Oh no, not that.
