Is that a bomb in your pants?

I don’t always see eye to eye with Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart, but no matter who his target is it’s easy to crack a smile. And at least he knows that absurd behavior in politics isn’t exclusive to a particular party. The way the underwear bomber slipped through all our anti-terrorism cracks brought out the best in Stewart and his writing staff.

Remember. “The system worked.”

The video below is from Monday’s night Daily Show, Stewart’s first opportunity to be on the air since Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab lit his… umm.. groin on fire.

Of course, thankfully the people on that Delta plane descending on Detroit didn’t perish due to the breakdown in the process that’s supposed to keep idiots like Abdulmutallab off our planes, no matter where they get on board. So I share this clip below.

Here are a few of my favorite lines:

*“I too have a tendency to ignore messages from Nigerian bankers who wish to help me. But when they show up in person and aren’t asking for a money order but instead are turning in their own son, maybe that conversation doesn’t get filed under spam.”

*”It’s December. He’s going from Nigeria to Amsterdam to Detroit without a coat? With a one-way ticket? Oh, you think he’s going to Detroit to start a better life?”

*”Eight years later (after the shoe bomber) the Lex Luther-like geniuses of Al-Qaida decided ‘Uh, I got an idea, this time why don’t we have a guy pay cash and fly one-way, no luggage from a European capital with the PET explosives hidden under his nutsack’.”
